Advantages of the GCL Low Pressure process

  • sealed molten metal chamber - limited exposure to atmosphere, less hydrogen gas pick up and oxide formation
  • descant regeneration dryers in the process air lead to a naturally de-gassing environment
  • cleaner metal - less oxide creation, higher mechanical properties. Note : aluminum is drawn from the bottom of the bath (cleanest metal) through a ceramic uptube
  • no exposure of molten aluminum to steel/iron components - minimize iron pick up
  • low pressure (3-4 psi) provides a smooth fill to reduce turbulence which causes oxides
  • metal flow rate is monitored and controlled at the sprue so it does not exceed max. velocity critical to oxide formation
  • facilitates water cooling at critical areas to ensure directional solidification back to sprue, rapid chill leads to better mechanical properties
  • intensified pressure in feed areas results in better DAS
  • automatic pressure compensation servo valve compensates for furnace level reduction each cycle
  • Automated process is repeatable, and provides process control
